Live in
Community
Jesus shared his life with a group of people who went with him on his journey.
We need others. We can't journey towards Jesus alone.
We need to be sharpened, encouraged, and to "do life" together through community involvement.
A Presence Based Church
We are pursuing a presence-based model, joining Jesus in the neighbourhoods where our members live.
"The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood." John 1:14 (MSG)
God is at work restoring all people and places. We emphasize proximity and place-based faith expressed through neighbourhood presence.
Neighbourhood Communities
We maintain established neighbourhood groups committed to shared living and local discipleship.
Each community reflects its people, place, and neighbours, operating distinctly while maintaining accountability to church leadership.
Communities serve different demographics and life stages, welcoming all ages.
Groups
Various small groups meet throughout the week-home-based Bible studies, book studies, and prayer gatherings.
Groups serve as places of belonging and relational connection.
Welcoming Refugees
We participated in the Government Community Sponsorship Pilot Programme, welcoming six refugee families.
The pilot concluded mid-2024 with uncertain future government support.
Current Status
South West Baptist cannot currently accept new refugees under this program. Existing sponsorship teams in Opawaho, Addington, and Oaklands continue supporting families through 2026.
Prayer Requests
- Volunteer and family wellbeing
- Trust-building
- Smooth life transitions
